Dryopteris atrata

Dryopteris atrata is also known as a Shaggy Shield fern.  Dryopteris atrata is a tall, hardy fern, which is really tough and is semi-evergreen in Ireland.  Dryopteris atrata is easy to grow and does well in our humid conditions, it can be used in both formal and informal planting schemes.  Cut back the old fronds in spring to allow for the new growth to shine through.  

Plant in part to full shade, with moist but well drained soil.  It will tolerate sun if in a moist soil. Dryopteris atrata is fully hardy.
