Cotinus Royal Purple is also known as a Smoke Bush. It is hard to miss the Smoke Bush when it is in flower during early summer The flowers can be approximately 6 inches long and when the flowering is finished the feathery stalks remain and this is what gives Cotinus it’s more common name of the Smoke Bush.
The leaves of Continus Royal Purle are oval shaped purple leaves and are stunning even without the flowers. I have seen this planted with Choisya Sundance and the combination of the two works quite well.
It is quite a showy shrub, works well as a specimen shrub, or as part of a mixed border.
Pruning, just cut out any branches that are damaged in spring
